US utilities added 18 billion cubic feet (bcf) of natural gas into storage during the week ended August 18, 2023, less than market expectations of a 33 billion cubic feet build. That compares with an increase of 54 bcf in the same week last year and a five-year (2018-2022) average increase of 49 bcf. Last week's increase lifted stockpiles to 3.083 trillion cubic feet (tcf), 513 bcf higher than last year at this time and 268 bcf above the five-year average of 2.815 tcf.
